Why every piece carries a number

The pocket detail of a chore jacket, drawn flat

When a run is cut, each piece gets a number before it is sewn. The number goes on the tag, into the archive, and onto the invoice when the piece is sold. It is not a limited-edition count; a run can be cut again. It is a record.

The record is what lets us take a piece back years later and know its cloth, its run and its date. It is also what lets a repair be a repair rather than a replacement. If a button goes, the number tells us which corozo lot it came from.

Printed objects carry their number inside the foot, printed as part of the object. There is no tag to lose.
